Catherine McAuley Center
Catherine McAuley Center in Cedar Rapids promotes the well being and dignity of individuals in need by providing a transitional housing program for unaccompanied women over the age of 18 and a basic education program for adult women and men.
The adult basic education program provides free one-on-one tutoring. Assisted by staff members and volunteer tutors utilizing a variety of materials, adults can study at their own level and pace. They may prepare for their GED test, study English as a Second Language, improve basic math and language skills, or develop basic computer skills. The Center’s immigrant/refugee program coordinator provides case management services to help newcomers make a smooth transition to community life. They also help people in preparing for their U.S. citizenship examinations.
